Radio Tour

October 5, 2010, Alexandria, Va. — NCUA Chairman Debbie Matz today took to the airwaves to promote NCUA’s new public service campaign aimed at raising public awareness of credit union federal deposit insurance.
Matz told listeners of her interest in making sure that “everybody knows if you have money in a federally insured credit union, it’s protected up to $250,000 per account. I know some of you may not be familiar with NCUA. So you may not know that credit unions are federally insured. In the past few years, millions of people moved their money from other investments to credit unions – and I want to be sure that consumers do everything they can to set up their accounts so that all of their money is protected.”
The tour coincides with the launch of NCUA TV commercials, featuring nationally-known consumer financial expert Suze Orman. Chairman Matz appears today on drive-time radio programs in Dallas, Houston, San Francisco and Tampa; statewide radio networks in Arizona and California, and three national radio networks: Dow Jones MarketWatch, Fox Radio and the Wall Street Journal Radio Network. Also, on Wednesday, Chairman Matz will appear on Federal News Radio, a network focusing on federal workers. NCUA is the independent federal agency that regulates, charters and supervises federal credit unions. With the backing of the full faith and credit of the U.S. government, NCUA operates and manages the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund, insuring the deposits of over 90 million account holders in all federal credit unions and the overwhelming majority of state-chartered credit unions.
